Who is this study for?
You may qualify if you:
- Are 40 to 80 and were diagnosed with COPD at least 1 year ago
- Smoke now or used to smoke
- Have used a daily “triple therapy” inhaler routine for 6+ months, like Trelegy or Breztri, or a steroid combo inhaler plus Spiriva
- Had 2 or more flare-ups treated with steroids, or a hospital stay, in the past year

Step 2: We call you
It's a short call about your COPD, your flare-ups and the inhalers you use, to see if the study could be a fit.
Step 3: Come in for your screening visit
At our Brooksville clinic, next to Oak Hill Hospital. We go over the consent form with you first: what happens, the visit schedule, the risks, and your right to leave at any time. Then blood work, breathing tests and a heart check (ECG). Some people come back about 2 weeks later for a second blood test.
Step 4: Start the study if you qualify
You'll get your first study injection at the clinic. 2 in 3 participants get the study medication; the rest get a placebo. Everyone keeps using their usual inhalers.

What is a clinical trial?
A clinical trial is a research study that tests new medical treatments to find out if they're safe and effective. This COPD study follows strict scientific standards and FDA regulations to protect participants' safety and rights. By taking part, you help advance medical knowledge and may help improve future treatments for people with COPD.
What is the purpose of this study?
This study is testing whether an investigational medication that targets eosinophil-related inflammation can reduce COPD flare-ups when it's added to your usual inhalers.
What are eosinophils?
Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell. In some people with COPD, high levels are linked to airway inflammation and flare-ups. A routine blood test measures them, and it's part of the study screening.
What is the study medication?
It's an investigational injection, a shot under the skin, given at our clinic about once every 6 months. It isn't approved for COPD; that's what the study is testing. On injection days, you'll stay at the clinic for at least 2 hours so our team can keep an eye on you.
Could I get a placebo?
Yes. 2 in 3 people get the study medication and the rest get a placebo, an inactive look-alike. Neither you nor the study team will know which one you get. Everyone gets the same visits, tests and care, and keeps using their usual inhalers.
Do I keep using my inhalers?
Yes. The study medication or placebo is added on top of your usual COPD inhalers. Don't stop or change any medicine on your own.
I have asthma too. Can I join?
Not this study. People who have ever been diagnosed with asthma can't take part. Leave your number and we'll reach out if another study fits.
I take Dupixent, Nucala or another biologic shot. Can I join?
Not if you've had one in the past 6 months. Tell us about any biologic you've used before, and our team will check. If this study isn't a fit, we'll reach out if another one is.
I use oxygen. Can I join?
Maybe. If you use oxygen 12 hours a day or less, at a low setting, you may still qualify. If you need it more than 12 hours a day, this study isn't a fit.
Do I have to quit smoking?
No. Current and former smokers can both take part. Our team will share information about quitting at your screening visit, but quitting isn't required.
How long will the study last?
At least 1 year and up to 2 years. You'll have about 10 to 15 clinic visits, more often in the first few months, with phone check-ins in between. You'll also fill out a short electronic symptom diary each day. We'll walk you through the full schedule before you decide.
What are the benefits of participating?
Participants receive COPD monitoring and care at no cost, including regular check-ins, blood work, breathing tests and study medication. You'll receive $100 for every visit for your time and travel. While individual benefits can't be guaranteed, this study aims to find out whether an investigational medication can reduce COPD flare-ups.
Do I need insurance to participate?
No, insurance isn't required. All study-related care, including study medication, clinic visits, tests and procedures, is provided at no cost to eligible participants.
